Yeah, when I created the chain-gun my intention was to have the 'use' command do one of two things:

- Allow you to take control of the gun and shoot it at who you want to.
or
- Cause the weapon to fold back up so it could be picked up again.

The problem is there is no easy way to trap the 'use' command server side. It should be possible, just takes some work and experimenting.

The other issue is to make the chain gun fold up requires a new model, and that is a fair amount of work.

i like the idea of being able to manually use it but picking it up would be really good

Can't you simply put the model in reverse?

No models do not work that way. The physics for closing are also different. It would look odd and unnatural if you just reversed the animation.

but what if the new model just had you closing the gun by hand or it could be a button that makes it fold up automaticly

That does not change anything. If it folds, you need the new model. If it is a button, you need to trap the 'use' command. The same issues apply.

Shotting items to make them work does not make practical sense. It is not a common interface in CS. In CS (and life) you shoot things to make them stop working. You also still have the issue with the model animations.
