i think new year baby skins or something similar to that would be approipriate. and fun. although its kinda disturbing to kill babies...hmmmm....

Well, I thought about them, but the colored flares really didn't seem that 4th of july-ish. New sprites would have to be created for the color change. It seemed like a lot of work for not that big of a bang.
