Approvals?

Fluff,

Have you come to any conclusion on approval for any weapons?

As Shabby has suggested, Once we have a few weapons we can launch a vote to see which one is most liked.

Keep in mind it takes about 1 month of work to code a weapon. Given that amount of time I would geuss we would add a new weapon (or family of weapons) about every new map pack (map packs get released about every 2-3 months).

Yeah maybe if we got something about 3 good suggested ideas there should be a vote. The 3 I can find now are:
Water Blast Minigun
Remote Control C4 combined with Grenades
Thermal Imaging Device

But The Termal Imaging Device would proparly be impossible.

maybe that the The High Voltage Laser Beam is a good one 2 then. But I think we need some more conslusion about the last 3.

Bear Trap and Cross Bow have possibillities too.

Cross bow has the advantage that Half Life already has cross bow models so it simplifies that part.

Bear Trap although definately low tech, could be funny and somewhat annoying to get caught in.

I think the idea is fine. I would think the vote would be the conclusion.

Shabby's suggestion was:

1) Everyone post weapon concepts.
2) We vote on the weapon we want for the server.

I only modified this slightly to be:

1) Everyone posts weapon concepts.
2) Each concept is discussed, allowing the inventor to explain his idea and the weapon to evolve.
3) We vote on the weapon we want for the server.

If you feel the weapon has gone through enough evolution and is strong enough to win the vote then sure it is done. It would seem the only weapons that are ever "done" are the ones that win the weapon vote.

If you read the first part of this thread, you will notice the limiting factor of how many weapons can win is the time it takes to implement a weapon. This means the competition between weapons is fierce.

blabla.. I read the first part but just a simple answer please... Yes or no :? :D
Or let me refrase my question... Could a weapon participate more votes? So if it lost the first time it could participate the 2nd time...

Ok, lets try this another way:
Keep in mind it takes about 1 month of work to code a weapon. Given that amount of time I would geuss we would add a new weapon (or family of weapons) about every new map pack (map packs get released about every 2-3 months).

Now if it takes 1 month to code a weapon that seems to say that at most only 1 weapon can be added a month. Since I do not want to spend all my spare time coding weapons that is where the 2-3 month period comes in.

The one exception to this rule is families of weapons (like grenades etc) that can reuse almost all the same code. Multiple weapons of the same family may be added (in some cases).

ooopps sorry missed the last part. Assuming Shabby agrees I see no reason to limit how many times a weapon can be voted for.

I think a lot of good ideas have been presented and would hate to see them fall by the way side.

Ah I know what you mean Fluffy. You want us to evolve the weapon and then see where the best comes from. So no discuusion from you. You will change it AFTER the votes if thats neccasary... Right? :?

My hope is through the discussions a consensus can be reached and the best weapon(s) produced. It would be cool if the whole SWI team (actually the whole server) could participate in helping evolve the concepts.

If there is a problem with a weapon I will post the possible issues as part of the weapon discussion, (as I did for the Water Gun, Infra-Red camera, Remote Control C4, and High energy laser). The group can then discuss possible solutions to the problem.

In cases where a deadlock exists (5 people want it one way, and 5 people want it a different way) I might step in and make the final descision. My hope is this will not happen often.
