Last time I look (about a year ago now) the default install was fine. You basically need to be able to compile .qc files and import/export .smd files.

I recommend milkshape as it is inexpensive and directly imports/exports the Half Life model format.

http://www.milkshape3d.com

And as Fa mentioned being able to do the animation and textures is an absolute must for the modler.

The milkshape web site has some excellent tutorials on how to use the tool and do animations.

I started learning it since yesterday :D

Here is an example that i made with Maks:

First the inventors make an idea:

Code: Select all
High Voltage Laser Beam

This is an example!

An H.V.L.B. It is a laser between two walls. To generate the laser you need a transmitter and a receiver. You could place the transmitter on anything solid in a map, that doesn’t include players. The receiver must be placed in visual range of the transmitter so it could receive the laser. The maximum distance between the transmitter and receiver is unlimited. But the further the two devices are from each other the less the strength of the laser is. The point of the laser is to damage the enemy while it is walking through it. For example: If the distance is 2 meters the damage ratio would be 50%. But if the distance is 10 meters, the damage ratio would be 10%. So it would be wise to plant the devices in a tunnel or a doorway. You could plant them in whatever line you want to. The accuracy won’t go down.

Damage Ratio: Can be different, depends on the distance.
Accuracy: 100%, no matter what way the devices are planted.
Credit cost: not yet decided

Then the Drawers make a sketch of it: (DONT LAUGH I MADE THIS SKETCH IN 10 SECS. )

Image

Then the Modellers make it 3D and make it ready for the Checker: (ALSO THIS ONE IS MADE VERY QUICK! )

Image

Then the Checker will say if this would be possible or not, if it is, hes gonna make it playable on the testserver, where the testers can test the weapon...

I hope you guys now have an idea of what i mean...

Here's one for ya. How do you make the numbers on a digital clock or on a time bomb, change on an animation? Would that be programed in? or is that apart of the animation?

As a way to prove I could be an inventor--

Katana

Needs no ammo

Replaces knife

A katana does thirty damagge per normal slash, 130 damage with a back slash (essentially twice as good as a knife) and has a longer range. It would also swing silently (unless you hit something).

It would probably be between one and two credits, or something.

Plus, we should sell "powerups" too, like "poison bullets"--for two credits, your next thirty bullets shot would have a poison effect and eventually drain the enemy of 50 health. Ammo comes for one credit in packs of ninety.

Or maybe perks like in Crimsonland (I DO NOT RECOMMEND CHILDREN DOWNLOAD THIS GAME, VERY GRAPHIC), a downloadable game. It has stuff like you move faster, bullets fire faster, bullets move faster, reload quicker, you should sell stuff like that, and the best part is it doesn't take nearly as much code to make as other stuff (I think.)

Oh, and BTW, download The Specialists. It's a half-life matrix mod, and it's really kickass. You could always use some stuff from it, like katanas and throwing knives and drum shotguns and kickass stuff like that.

It's an idea yes.. But alot of people posted there idea's HERE. Does that mean that everybody that had and idea should be an inventor too. :? :P
If you are a good Drawer or Modeller it would be better if you would apply for that first.. They are more needed. I want to be an Inventor/Tester because I suck at drawing or modelling. If you can't eather then ok..
