Postby Violated » Mon Apr 07, 2008 11:18 am

Well decided to share some of the software i use and to get other people to add thier own list of good software. After finding out that fluff has not herd of google sketchup made me realize that there is some good software out there that not many know of. Hopefully we could get a good list going here and maybe i can get some new software to mess around with.

FireFox
Great web browser ( pretty sure everyone knows about firefox )
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Firefox 3 Beta "X"
Currently at Beta 5 ( mainly for testing and developers but i have been using it with minimal problems )
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

Ad-Aware
Great trojan, worm, spyware and malware remover ( used with S&D is said to give great detectability )
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Spybot S&D
Removes trojans, spyware and malware ( used with Adaware is said to give great detectability )
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Google SketchUp
3D modeling program real simple to use ( inferior to more mainstream modeling programs, atleast the free version is. )
http://sketchup.google.com/

Winamp
Media player ( pretty sure most have herd of this program )
http://www.winamp.com/

PhotoShop
Great imaging program although it is not free ( great alternative Gimp )
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/index.html

Gimp
Imaging software ( I used this once for a very short time and it seemed to have many features PS had and many people stick by gimp, best thing its free )
http://www.gimp.org/

CCleaner
Pc optimization software ( cleans registry, uninstalls programs, cleans temporary items and a few other features )
http://www.ccleaner.com/

LitePC
Minimizes windows OS footprint ( i used xplite to remove some things i couldn't otherwise of removed such as default screen savers, default games, etc... )
http://www.litepc.com/

Fraps
Pretty good screen capturing software ( records videos from games as well as screenshots, main feature i use it for is to display FPS on the screen while playing games )

Good idea Vio. YEAH Vio gets a cookie.

Open Office
This is a multi platform free replacement for Microsoft Office. It includes a Word Processor, Data Base and many other programs. You can export documents in a number of formats including word and PDF. Best part is its free.

Milk Shape 3D
This is the 3D modeling program I use for all the Half-Life models. It can import and export models for many different game types. It also does animations. It has a free 30-day eval period. After that it costs $35.00, with free upgrades.

Parallels WorkStation
This is virtualization software. It allows you to run another OS on your desktop in a window. I use it to run Linux on my windows machine. It has some draw backs, like not being able to resize the window. You can only minimize/maximize the window. I find it easier to use than VM Ware and allows you to start, stop, and pause the virtual OS at will. Always handy when the need to play CS pops up. There is a free 15 day trial, but after that it costs $49.99.

Microsoft Visual Express Tools
I am somewhat a Microsoft hater, but they do offer a nice line of free development tools for C++, Basic, DB, and the Web. The express C++ is what I use to develop DMS mod.

LTSpice or SwitcherCAD III
This is a graphical SPICE simulator. Complete with graphs of simulation results. I can't imagine anyone here using this product, but hey I use it a lot and its free. It is basically an electronic circuit simulator. You graphically design a circuit, run a simulation, then graph how the circuit performed.

Well figured i would also post these, not exactly software but great online stuff.

Pandora Radio
Online radio, type in the name of a band or song and it will play music similar to what you searched for, great to find new bands and songs of the genre you like. Has a limit of 6 or so songs for each channel you create, number of channels is pretty much unlimited, will also save your channels if you create a free account.

TweakXP
Nice site that has loads of tweaks for Windows XP, have never used their software but used many registry and other tweaks listed on their site.
http://www.tweakxp.com/

TweakVista
Never used this site since i still use XP but it's still apart of tweak.com.

TweakMCE
Tweaks for Media Center Edition, once again i use xp but is part of tweak.com.

I just started messing with this one.

Game Tap
I saw the ads for it but ignored it. On a whim I downloaded it. It is actually kind of cool. For free you can play a bunch of old games. Most of the games blow, but there are a few that are really fun. Been playing Rouge. It is Half-Life-ish type game (but not as good). Hey for free how can you go wrong. There are more and better games you can play for a fee. http://www.gametap.com
