If you get their IP address you can look up the origin. My guess it is not coming from Africa. It is probably a con. The next message would probably go, "I came to America but my gold bars are stuck in customs. I need to pay import taxes of $x. I have no cash, but I have the bars. So if you loan me the import taxes, I will repay you when I sell the gold bars (or give you a gold bar)."

My suggestion is to disregard all of the messages like this. Its a common interpritation of "Nigerian Letter". We used to have a representative in africa, and i used to get all kinds of spam on my email.

There is one rule that everyone must remeber: If it sounds too good to be true it most probably is.

He probably just randomly typed in a sn and ended with yours by some dumb luck. Either a spam for laughs, for information or from a rapist

Thats a classical scam, guy I studied with fell for it a year or so ago, he thought he had won big on a Spanish lottery (wich he had never played on), he did some loudtalking about it around our classes in Biochem, i.e. "Im gonna leave this stupid **** soon and go to the Caymans, im going to be Rich " etc etc..
Of course, all he had to do was "pay up some stupid customs tax to get the paperwork done" to get the to money... (My Swenglish translation)

Of course, he never received any $$$ -- And never mentioned it, I still trash him for it every now and then, He refuses to admit it but obviously he was scammed
