Postby DrUnKnAtIvEsWoMaN » Tue Sep 19, 2006 1:44 am

Ok we have gone to the extent of upgrading our computer and now are ready to do it again. Our computers are are running at about a 1.4 gig and will be running at about 2.4 gig by the 5th of october. Our LAN throught a cable modum is at 6 Megs. Still we have a bad lag and also a bad ping. what can we get, use, or do to make this better? any Ideas? [drunk]

One test you can do is in windows open a "Command Prompt" window and type: ping server.deadm.com

The number that report will be the best ping possible you can get. If this number is close to the number reported as you ping in CS then the issue is not your computer but the connection to the internet.

If these two numbers a much different then upgrading your vid cards can help.

Also keep in mind living in washington state you are talking with a computer on the other side of the country. So your pings might never get down to the sub 100's.

Explanation:

What is different about the two pings.

Command Prompt Ping - This is the time it takes an ethernet packet to travel from your computer to a remote computer. This tests network connectivity speed.

In Game CS ping (Shown on the score board in CS) - This includes the time is takes for the packet to reach your computer plus the time it takes your client to render the frame. So this time includes BOTH network time and render time.

That is why if these two numbers differ by too much it points to a bottle neck in the rendering of the images (graphics bottleneck).
